Just got back from VA where I was shooting footage for a five minute documentary on the Asian vote.
Why does it matter? While Asian Americans, in some states, are the fastest growing racial group, they are the least likely to be registered voters.
Asian Americans currently only make up 5% of the population in the US, this year in Virginia however, it is so damn important to get as many people of color registered and voting for Obama as possible.
Basically 99% percent of the Asian Americans I interviewed over the weekend are actively campaigning for Obama, interestingly many of their parents traditionally vote republican, if they vote at all. Much of this has to do with communism, small business culture, neo-colonialism, and fear. I find it both curious and hopeful that the younger generation of Asian Americans are inspired by Obama's cultural and political make-up. I consider myself one of them, and in the making of this short film, am doing my part in getting the man elected. Encourage me to work swiftly people...
