Metro Washington, DC) The National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF) extends its congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama and the incoming members of Congress on their election victories.
As one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S., Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs) turned out to vote in record numbers joining an unprecedented number of voters of color on Election Day. Between 1990 and 2000, the API population more than doubled in 19 states. Although APIs make up only 5 percent of the overall U.S. population, they represent significant populations in states like California, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Hawaii, Illinois, Washington, Florida, Virginia and Massachusetts. APIs undoubtedly served as a key voting bloc in several key election races and ballot initiatves
