Pledge to Fill in Our Future Today!

The Youth Census Advocacy Project 2010 (YCAP2010) strives to improve the nation-wide participation of Asian and Pacific Islander populations in the 2010 census through outreach to the nation’s Asian and Pacific Islander American student leaders.

While we do encourage census participation regardless of race or ethnicity, we strive to address the particularly challenging obstacles that face Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in successfully completing the census, including, but not restricted to: confidentiality concerns, language barriers, time/resource restrictions, perceived apathy, and the limited dissemination of information pertaining to the census. Through the program, we hope to instill a sense of service and leadership among the nation’s Asian American youth—skills that we hope they will be able to carry with them as they tackle issues of civic participation and social justice in the future.

We hope to tackle this pressing issue through a four-pronged approach:

  1. Educate the youth on the importance of the census and its implications on the youth in the years to come;
  2. Equip them with the tools necessary to impact their community and encourage census participation;
  3. Empower them through guest speakers and lecturers, which we hope will ultimately encourage the youth to…
  4. Envision a future in which Asian & Pacific Islander Americans are fairly represented in governmental affairs.
